This journal provides a forum for scholarly work dealing primarily with probabilistic and statistical approaches to contemporary solid/structural and fluid mechanics problems encountered in diverse technical disciplines such as aerospace, civil, marine, mechanical, and nuclear journal aims to maintain a healthy balance between general solution techniques and problem-specific. The purpose of this paper is to describe a procedure for the selection of a reinspection interval for defects found during an inspection. The procedure is based on probabilistic fracture mechanics calculations of the reliability of the component into the future and selection of an inspection time based on maintaining the target value reliability.

He received the Undergraduate Faculty Award from the University of Minnesota, the Best Paper Award of the 48th US Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium, and the Young Investigator Award from the US Army Research Office. His research interests include fracture mechanics, probabilistic mechanics, scaling, and structural reliability. In this work, a probabilistic fracture mechanics assessment approach to perform the structural reliability analysis of tubes subjected to a reeling process was developed. This procedure takes into account the statistical distributions of the material properties and pipe geometry, using a fracture mechanics approach and the Monte Carlo by: 1.

These quantities are useful in the reliability assessment of structures made of the tested material. Comparing the analytical result with the experimental result, it is found that the proposed probabilistic fracture mechanics model can reasonably explain the experimental by: 7. This report addresses the potential application of probabilistic fracture mechanics computer codes to support the Proactive Materials Degradation Assessment (PMDA) program as a method to predict component failure probabilities. The present report describes probabilistic fracture mechanics.

Introduction In recent years, probabilistic fracture mechanics (PFM) is becoming increasingly popular for realistic evaluation of fracture response and reliability of cracked structures.

Using PFM, one can incorporate statistical uncertainties in engineering design and evaluation. Otherwise, the fracture criterion based on the initiation of crack growth provides a conservative estimate of structural integrity.

This initiation-based criterion was used in the current probabilistic fracture analysis that will be presented in the forthcoming sections.
